In brief

As Hampshire and the Solent face the defining challenges of our time, climate change and nature loss, we urge all mayoral candidates to place nature and climate at the heart of prosperity, working with communities, businesses and councils to become a place of resilience and innovation where people and nature thrive together.

This means:

  • Leadership, engaging residents, businesses and organisations to shape the transition to a healthier, fairer, more sustainable future, drawing on the region’s academic and business strengths to support all our communities, and ensure no one is left behind.

  • Building a fair, resilient economy that generates good green jobs, championing innovation and skills in sustainable technologies.

  • Moving from fossil fuel to clean power by supporting growth of renewable energy and by becoming energy-efficient, making buildings, new and old, both warm and affordable.

  • Setting frameworks for planning and transport that protect what makes this area so special and safeguard our future.

  • Restoring nature – protecting biodiversity, encouraging nature recovery.

  • Making the links between health, nature and climate

By doing this, the new Mayor and Combined Authority will secure our place as a model of sustainable prosperity for the UK, where prosperity goes hand-in-hand with thriving communities and a thriving environment, and future generations inherit a healthier, more resilient place to live.  Read about our vision of Hampshire and Solent in 2050.
